The lost wax technique, used for centuries in West Africa, involves sculpting each bead from wax, then coating the wax mold in clay. Once the clay hardens, the wax is melted away, leaving behind a hollow space that is then filled with molten brass. The mold is broken to reveal the finished bead. This traditional method has been passed down for generations, embodying the history and cultural values of the Ashanti people. Brass beads like these have held spiritual and economic significance in Ghana, symbolizing wealth, status, and power.
