Discover the vibrant and eco-friendly beauty of our large-size African trade beads, meticulously handcrafted by the talented artisans of Kroboland in Ghana, West Africa. Made from recycled glass, these Krobo beads embody a unique blend of tradition, sustainability, and stunning craftsmanship.

  • Strand Length: 22 1/4" (56.5 cm)
  • Bead Size: 13 - 14 mm in diameter

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

Each bead is crafted from tiny seed glass beads through an intricate process that reflects the rich cultural heritage of the Krobo people. These beads begin their journey as discarded glass, collected, and meticulously cleaned. The glass is then broken into small fragments and placed into clay molds. Through high-temperature firing, these fragments fuse together, retaining a beautiful translucency and a variety of colors.

This method, distinct from the powdered glass technique, results in beads with a unique, variegated appearance. The vibrant colors and intricate patterns of Krobo beads are not only visually striking but also carry deep cultural significance in Ghanaian society, often used in ceremonies and as symbols of status and identity.
