Introducing our exquisite strand of new powder glass African beads, meticulously crafted by the talented artisans of Kroboland in Ghana, West Africa. These stunning beads beautifully imitate the elegance of old Venetian fancy trade beads, showcasing a unique blend of tradition and artistry.

  • Strand Length: Approximately 25 3/4" (65 cm)
  • Bead Size: Approximately 10 mm in diameter

Each bead is handcrafted from recycled bottles and other glass items, which are ground into a fine powder and carefully molded to create these intricate designs. The beads are then decorated with a combination of glass fragments, powdered glass, and natural dyes to achieve vibrant patterns and detailed motifs. Artisans use metal or wooden tools to etch or paint these intricate designs, ensuring each bead is a work of art.

The decorated beads undergo a firing process in a kiln, where high temperatures fuse the glass powder and set the designs in place. This technique not only solidifies the beads but also enhances their durability and brilliance.

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

The making of these fancy glass beads is a cherished tradition among the people of Kroboland. By using recycled materials and traditional methods, they create beads that are not only beautiful but also environmentally friendly. The importance of trade beads in Ghana and across Africa cannot be overstated, as they symbolize cultural heritage, craftsmanship, and trade history.
