Introducing our exquisite strand of NEW African trade beads, crafted from fused glass by talented artisans in the Krobo region of Ghana, West Africa. These beautiful beads are tumble rounded and polished to give them a smooth surface.

  • Strand Length: 23" (58.5 cm)
  • Bead Size: 12 - 13 mm in diameter

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

Each bead on this strand is a testament to the skill and artistry of the Krobo people. Using small-sized glass beads as raw material, these larger beads are formed through a meticulous process:

  • Collection and Preparation: Small glass beads are collected and cleaned.
  • Molding: The small glass beads are placed into clay molds that define the shape and size of each larger bead.
  • Firing: The molds with glass beads are fired in a kiln at high temperatures, fusing the small beads together into larger, solid beads.
  • Finishing: Once cooled, the beads are removed from the molds and polished to smooth out any rough edges.

These beads are not only stunning in their vibrant colors and intricate patterns, but they also hold cultural significance in Ghanaian society. They are often used in ceremonies and symbolize status and identity.
