Crafting Process of Krobo Fused Recycled Glass Beads
These stunning beads are made using an eco-friendly process that involves fusing small glass beads to form larger, more durable beads. The artisans of Kroboland start by collecting small glass beads, which are then placed into molds made from clay. These molds determine the shape and size of the final beads.
The molds with the small glass beads are fired in a kiln at high temperatures, causing the beads to fuse together. This method results in non-translucent beads that showcase intricate patterns and vibrant colors. Once cooled, the beads are removed from the molds and polished to smooth out any rough edges.
Krobo beads are renowned for their vibrant colors and intricate patterns. They hold cultural significance in Ghanaian society, often used in ceremonies and as symbols of status and identity.
