Antique Oval "Feather" Venetian Lampwork Glass Trade Beads

These beautiful, old Venetian trade beads are a stunning example of traditional glassmaking craftsmanship. Crafted in the late 1800s to early 1900s, these beads were made in Venice, Italy, and were widely used in the African trade, particularly in Ghana and West Africa. Featuring an exquisite "feather" design with trail decoration, these oval beads capture the elegance and history of Venetian glassmaking.

  • Size: 10-11 mm x 8-9 mm
  • Condition: Excellent with very light beveling and a hairline crack (please see photos)

These Venetian lampwork beads were meticulously handmade using the centuries-old technique of winding molten glass around a metal rod, creating the unique wound glass shape. The intricate feather pattern was added as trail decoration, showcasing the fine artistic detail that Venetian artisans are famous for. Used in African trade during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, these beads played a significant role in West African markets, where they were often used for currency and adornment, symbolizing wealth and status.
