Rare Yellow Eye Venetian Glass Trade Beads – African Lampwork Spacers

Rare Yellow Eye Venetian Glass Trade Beads – African Lampwork Spacers

These five beautiful and rare yellow "EYE" disks/spacers are exquisite examples of Venetian wound glass beads with delicate trail decoration. Crafted with precision in Venice, Italy, during the late 1800s to early 1900s, these beads were part of the African trade, symbolizing the historical exchange of goods and culture.

  • Bead Diameter: 11-12 mm
  • Condition: Very good, featuring beveled edges (see photos)

The lampwork technique used to create these beads involved carefully winding molten glass around a rod, resulting in unique and intricate designs. Venetian artisans mastered this technique, and these beads were then used extensively in trade, particularly in Ghana and West Africa, where they held both economic and symbolic value. These rare "EYE" beads, with their vibrant yellow color and eye-catching design, are a testament to the artistry and cultural significance of Venetian glass beads in African trade.
