This blankets are part of the dowry of a lady who is getting married ( Fulani / Peul ) and are used as marriage bed screens ( suspended over the bed as mosquito protection ).

Arkilla kerka are very important cloths for the Fulani / Peul people with symbolic and social importance.

This blanket was collected in Mali ( West Africa ) and dates from the Early to Mid 1900s. T

he size of this Arkilla Kerka is 76" ( 193 cm ) x 56" ( 142 cm ) and is in average condition with several holes, worn areas, stains, and damages due to age and usage.

This type of blankets have 6 warps of cloth sewn together to form a single piece of cloth.
