RARE African Ewe Kente Ghana Volta handwoven ceremonial Ethnic cloth textile

This is authentic old ( 1960s - 1970s ) African hand woven EWE KENTE ( Volta Region ) cloth from Ghana.

This is a "Woman size" cloth and measures 69" ( 175 cm ) x 50" ( 127 cm ).

The cloth is in excellent condition with minor stains and wear due to usage and age. Please see photos.

Kente is an EWE ( Ghana - Volta Region ) Ceremonial cloth that is hand woven on a horizontal treadle loom.

The strips are sewn together into larger pieces of cloths.

It takes from several weeks to months for a weaver to complete a cloth like this depending of the design and size.

Kente is more than just a cloth but is a visual representation of history, ethics, oral literature, philosophy, moral values and religious beliefs.

The Kente cloths history goes back to the 17th Century.

In present days is still used as a cloth in Ghana but is also used by collectors of fine woven cloths and artifacts as Wall hanging, sofa or bed covering.
