Introducing a beautiful strand of translucent recycled powder glass African beads, expertly crafted by the skilled artisans of Kroboland, Ghana, West Africa. These stunning beads are a modern imitation of the old Venetian "FANCY" trade beads, showcasing the rich tradition and craftsmanship of African bead-making.

  • Strand length: Approximately 22" (56 cm) long
  • Bead size: 13 - 14 mm in diameter

These exquisite beads are made from recycled glass bottles and other glass items, which are ground into a fine powder and then molded to create these unique and beautiful beads. Each bead is 100% handmade, ensuring that no two beads are exactly alike, adding to their charm and individuality.

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

The process of creating these fancy beads begins with crushing glass into a fine powder. This powder is carefully placed into molds and decorated with intricate patterns using a combination of glass fragments, natural dyes, and pigments. Artisans use metal or wooden tools to etch or paint detailed motifs onto the beads, resulting in vibrant and intricate designs.

Once the decoration is complete, the beads are fired in a kiln at high temperatures. This firing process fuses the glass powder and sets the designs in place, giving the beads their final, polished form. The people of Krobo have perfected this technique over generations, producing beads that are not only beautiful but also carry significant cultural and historical importance.

Trade beads have played a crucial role in the history and economy of West Africa. They were historically used as a form of currency and were often traded for goods and services. Today, these beads continue to be a symbol of African heritage and craftsmanship, treasured by collectors and jewelry makers around the world.
