Introducing our exquisite strand of NEW recycled powder glass African beads, handcrafted by the skilled artisans of Kroboland in Ghana, West Africa. These beads beautifully imitate the classic designs of old Venetian fancy trade beads, showcasing a rich tradition of African craftsmanship.

  • Strand Length: 26 3/4" (68 cm)
  • Bead Size: 8 - 9 mm in diameter

Each bead is meticulously created from recycled bottles and other glass items. These materials are ground into powder, carefully molded, and transformed into stunning beads that are 100% handmade. YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

Decoration: What sets these fancy beads apart is the detailed decoration process. Artisans use a combination of glass fragments, powdered glass, and natural dyes to create intricate patterns and vibrant designs. They may use metal or wooden tools to etch or paint detailed motifs onto the beads, resulting in unique and eye-catching pieces.

Firing: Once decorated, the beads are fired in a kiln. The high temperatures fuse the glass powder and set the designs in place, giving the beads their final form and ensuring their durability.

Technique and Tradition: The people of Krobo in Ghana have perfected the art of making these fancy glass beads over generations. This craft not only preserves their cultural heritage but also plays a vital role in the local economy. Trade beads like these have been used for centuries in Africa, not only as decorative items but also as a form of currency and a symbol of social status.
