These Venetian beads are made using the traditional lampwork or wound glass technique. The glass was carefully wound around a metal rod and then shaped into beautiful designs, like the exquisite trails seen here. This delicate process required the expertise of Venetian artisans and made each bead a unique piece of art. Such beads were highly prized in the African trade, where they held immense cultural and economic significance, especially in Ghana. Their rarity and beauty make them sought after by collectors worldwide.
