This is authentic old 1960s African hand woven EWE KENTE ( Volta region ) cloth from Ghana.
The cloth is decorated with nice Square blocks of weft float of different colors. This is a "Woman size" cloth and measures 68" ( 172 cm ) x 52" ( 132 cm ).
The cloth is in very good condition with the exception of a tiny hole, 1 repair ( Top right corner, PLEASE SEE PHOTO ) and minor discoloration due to age and usage.
Kente is an EWE ( Ghana - Volta Region ) Ceremonial cloth that is hand woven on a horizontal treadle loom.
The strips are sewn together into larger pieces of cloths.
It takes from several weeks to months for a weaver to complete a cloth like this depending of the design and size.
Kente is more than just a cloth but is a visual representation of history, ethics, oral literature, philosophy, moral values and religious beliefs.
The Kente cloths history goes back to the 17th Century.
In present days is still used as a cloth in Ghana but is also used by collectors of fine woven cloths and artifacts as Wall hanging, sofa or bed covering.
A real piece of Authentic African art !
