These beads were made using the traditional lampwork (wound glass) technique, a delicate process where molten glass is wrapped around a metal rod to form intricate designs. Venetian artisans mastered this craft, producing beads that were highly sought after during the African trade era, particularly in West Africa, including Ghana. These trade beads became symbols of wealth and status and continue to hold cultural significance in Africa today.
