Rare Antique Brick Raised Eyes Venetian Glass Lampwork Trade Beads

Rare Antique Brick Raised Eyes Venetian Glass Lampwork Trade Beads

Introducing a set of three beautiful and rare antique Venetian lampwork trade beads, also known as wound glass beads. These brick-colored "Raised Eyes" beads are a true collector's item, noted in Picard’s Volume IV, p.15, bead 634. Venetian glass beads like these played an important role in the African trade, particularly in the early 1900s.

  • Size: 13-14 mm X 11 mm
  • Condition: Very good (some air bubbles and very lightly beveled)

Each bead was carefully handcrafted in Venice using the traditional lampwork technique, where molten glass is wound around a metal rod, creating distinctive patterns and forms. These beads were highly sought after in West Africa, especially in Ghana, where they were traded for goods and services, becoming a symbol of wealth and status. Venetian trade beads, like these, continue to be treasured for their historical and cultural significance in African art and jewelry.
