Small Yellow Disk Venetian African Trade Beads, Antique Lampwork Glass

Small Yellow Disk Venetian African Trade Beads, Antique Lampwork Glass

Introducing a beautiful set of eight small yellow disk-shaped Venetian wound glass trade beads, adorned with intricate trail decoration. These exquisite beads, often referred to as “ZEN” beads due to their harmonious circular form, were created in Venice during the late 1800s to early 1900s and used extensively in the African trade. Their striking yellow hue and delicate craftsmanship make them a unique piece of history and a perfect addition to any collection of antique beads or jewelry designs.

  • Size of beads: 8-9 mm in diameter
  • Condition: Very good (minor decoration loss, see photo)

These beads were meticulously handmade in Venice using the lampwork technique, also known as the wound glass method. Each bead was individually shaped over a flame, allowing for the characteristic patterns and vibrant colors that distinguish them. Venetian trade beads like these played a vital role in African history, particularly in Ghana, where they were used as currency, in rituals, and to signify social status during the trade era.
