Handmade African Brass Beads from Ghana – 25.5" Strand

Handmade African Brass Beads from Ghana – 25.5" Strand

These stunning handmade African brass beads are meticulously crafted by the people of Ashanti in Ghana, West Africa, using the ancient lost wax technique. Each bead is formed from a handmade wax mold, which is destroyed after casting, making each bead truly one-of-a-kind. The tradition and skill passed down through generations are evident in the intricate detail of these 100% handmade beads.

Your strand will be identical to the strand shown in the photograph (given normal variation since these beads are all completely handmade).

  • Strand length (bead to bead): 25.5" (65 cm)
  • Bead size: 26-29 mm in length

These brass beads carry the rich history and culture of Ghana. For centuries, brass beads have been highly valued in West African society, symbolizing power, wealth, and artistry. The lost wax casting method, which dates back hundreds of years, requires exceptional skill and precision. A wax model is created for each bead, which is then encased in clay and heated to melt away the wax, leaving a unique mold. Molten brass is then poured into the mold to form the bead. Once the brass cools, the clay mold is broken, and the bead is polished to perfection.

Brass beads like these have been worn for special ceremonies, used in trade, and passed down as family heirlooms, representing the connection between heritage and artistry in West Africa.
