Authentic African Flat Brass Beads from Ghana – Handmade 26mm Strand

Authentic African Flat Brass Beads from Ghana – Handmade 26mm Strand

This exquisite strand of flat African brass beads is handcrafted by the skilled artisans of the Ashanti people in Ghana, West Africa. Each bead is meticulously made using the ancient and traditional lost wax technique, a process that ensures every bead is a unique work of art.

The creation process involves crafting an individual wax mold for each bead, which is destroyed once the bead is cast. This means every single bead requires its own custom wax mold, ensuring that no two beads are ever identical.

Key Details:

  • Strand Length: 24.5" (62 cm) – measured from bead to bead.
  • Bead Size: Approx. 26 mm in diameter.

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

These brass beads are 100% handmade in Ghana by the Ashanti people, renowned for their expertise in brass casting. The lost wax technique, also known as "cire perdue," is an ancient method of metal casting. A wax model is first made by hand, then encased in clay to create a mold. After heating the mold, the wax melts and is "lost," leaving a cavity into which molten brass is poured. Once the metal cools, the mold is broken open, and the beautiful brass bead emerges.

In Ghana, brass beads have deep cultural significance, symbolizing wealth, status, and heritage. They are often worn at important ceremonies and passed down through generations. This timeless tradition continues today, blending artistry with cultural pride.
