Handmade African Brass Beads from Ghana - 22" Strand | Lost Wax Technique
Handmade African Brass Beads from Ghana - 22" Strand | Lost Wax Technique
Introducing a stunning strand of large, handmade African brass beads, crafted by the skilled artisans of the Ashanti people in Ghana, West Africa. Each bead is created using the ancient lost wax technique, a method that has been passed down through generations and is renowned for producing intricate, unique designs. For every bead, a hand-carved wax mold is meticulously formed and destroyed after casting, ensuring that no two beads are exactly alike.
Your strand will be identical to the strand shown in the photograph (given normal variation since these beads are all completely handmade).
- Strand length: 22 1/4" (56.5 cm)
- Bead size: 20-21 mm in diameter
These African brass beads are not only decorative but also a piece of history, deeply rooted in the culture of Ghana. The Ashanti people have perfected the lost wax technique for centuries, creating beads that symbolize wealth, power, and status. This ancient tradition is a testament to the resilience and skill of the artisans, who continue to produce these timeless pieces today.
The lost wax casting process involves crafting a wax model for each bead, which is encased in a clay mold. After the wax is melted and drained, molten brass is poured into the mold to form the bead. Once the brass cools, the clay mold is broken, revealing a one-of-a-kind brass bead. This process makes every bead unique, with slight variations in texture and shape.
