Large African Round Brass Beads, Handmade in Ghana - 22-24mm

Large African Round Brass Beads, Handmade in Ghana - 22-24mm

Discover a beautiful matching strand of large round brass beads, handcrafted by skilled artisans from the Ashanti people in Ghana, West Africa. Each bead is meticulously made using the ancient and revered lost wax casting technique. In this process, a unique wax mold is created for each bead, which is then destroyed after casting, making every bead a true one-of-a-kind creation. The beads are entirely handmade, ensuring quality and authenticity.

  • Strand length: 22 1/2" (57 cm)
  • Bead size: 22-24 mm in diameter

Note: YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

These stunning brass beads are not only a symbol of craftsmanship but also carry deep cultural significance in Ghana. Brass beads have been used for centuries by various African cultures, especially by the Ashanti people, as symbols of wealth, status, and spirituality. These beads are often worn during important ceremonies and events.

The Lost Wax Technique:

The lost wax casting technique, also known as "cire perdue," is a highly skilled process that dates back thousands of years in Africa. Each bead begins as a detailed wax model, which is then encased in clay to form a mold. Once heated, the wax melts away, leaving a cavity for molten brass to be poured in. After cooling, the clay mold is broken apart to reveal the finished bead. This method ensures that no two beads are ever exactly alike.
