Handmade African Brass Beads, 15-16mm Round, Ghana Lost Wax

Handmade African Brass Beads, 15-16mm Round, Ghana Lost Wax

Introducing a stunning strand of handmade African brass beads, crafted by the skilled artisans of the Ashanti people in Ghana. These beautiful beads are created using the traditional lost wax technique, where a unique mold is hand-carved from wax for each bead. After casting, the mold is destroyed, ensuring that no two beads are ever exactly alike.

  • Strand length: 21 1/4 inches (54 cm) from bead to bead
  • Bead size: 15-16 mm in diameter

Each bead is made with meticulous attention to detail, showcasing the timeless craftsmanship of the Ashanti people. The beads are perfect for creating jewelry or adding an authentic African touch to your designs. Since the beads are completely handmade, each strand is truly one-of-a-kind.

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

History and Technique

The lost wax casting technique is an ancient art form, used in West Africa for centuries. In this process, a detailed mold is shaped out of wax, then encased in clay or a similar material. Once the mold hardens, molten brass is poured into the cavity, melting away the wax and forming a solid brass bead. This technique requires incredible skill and precision, making each bead a small work of art.

Brass beads have a rich history in Ghana, especially among the Ashanti people, where they are not just decorative but also carry symbolic value. Brass was historically a symbol of wealth and prestige, and these beads continue to play a significant role in cultural ceremonies and as heirlooms passed down through generations.
