Handmade African Tabular Brass Beads from Ghana, 24" Strand

Handmade African Tabular Brass Beads from Ghana, 24" Strand

This stunning strand of handmade African brass beads is created by the people of Ashanti in Ghana, West Africa, using the ancient "Lost Wax" technique. Each bead is meticulously crafted, requiring a hand-sculpted wax mold that is destroyed to reveal the final bead, making every bead completely unique.

Your strand will be identical to the strand shown in the photograph (given normal variation since these beads are all completely handmade).

  • Strand Length: 24" (61 cm) – from bead to bead
  • Bead Size: 19-22 mm in diameter

The intricate process of making these beads involves a wax model that is hand-carved for each bead. Once the wax mold is formed, molten brass is poured into the mold, and after cooling, the wax is melted away, leaving a beautifully crafted brass bead. This method, known as the "lost wax technique," has been used for centuries and holds great cultural and historical significance in Ghana, particularly among the Ashanti people. Brass beads have long been symbols of wealth, status, and artistic expression, often worn during important ceremonies and passed down through generations.
