Authentic African Brass Beads - Handcrafted in Ghana - 26" Strand

Authentic African Brass Beads - Handcrafted in Ghana - 26" Strand

This beautiful strand of brass beads is handcrafted by the talented artisans of the Ashanti people in Ghana, West Africa, using the ancient "Lost Wax" casting technique. Each bead is carefully made by hand, requiring a new mold for every piece, which is destroyed once the bead is cast. These beads are truly unique, representing both tradition and artistry passed down through generations.

Your strand will be identical to the strand shown in the photograph (given normal variation since these beads are all completely handmade).

  • Strand length: 26" (66 cm) from bead to bead
  • Bead size: 12-22 mm in diameter
  • Material: 100% handmade brass

The "Lost Wax" technique, also known as the cire-perdue process, has been used for centuries by the people of Ashanti in Ghana. This labor-intensive method involves sculpting a wax model of each bead, covering it in clay, and then heating the mold to melt the wax, leaving a hollow space that is filled with molten brass. This method ensures that no two beads are ever exactly alike.

Brass beads have long been an integral part of Ghanaian culture, serving not only as beautiful adornments but also as symbols of wealth, status, and heritage. For generations, these beads have been cherished in both everyday wear and ceremonial attire, reflecting the deep connection between art and identity in African society.
