Handmade African Brass Beads from Ghana – Lost Wax Technique, 22.5" Strand

Handmade African Brass Beads from Ghana – Lost Wax Technique, 22.5" Strand

A stunning 22.5" (57 cm) strand of unique African brass beads, handcrafted by the people of Ashanti/Asante in Ghana, West Africa. These beads are made using the ancient "Lost Wax" casting technique, where a handmade wax mold is created for each individual bead and destroyed after casting, ensuring no two beads are exactly the same.

  • Strand length (bead to bead): 22.5 inches (57 cm)
  • Bead size: 10-19 mm in diameter

These beautiful beads are 100% handmade by skilled artisans, with every bead crafted to perfection. The craftsmanship involved ensures that every strand is one-of-a-kind, with a striking variety of bead shapes and sizes.

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

The lost wax casting technique used in making these beads is an ancient method passed down through generations. This intricate process requires creating a wax model of the bead, encasing it in a clay mold, and heating it so the wax melts away, leaving a hollow cavity. Molten brass is then poured into the cavity to form the final bead. Once cooled, the mold is broken to reveal the bead, making each one truly unique.

Brass beads have a rich cultural history in Ghana, symbolizing wealth, status, and artistic expression. For centuries, these beads have been worn during important ceremonies and celebrations by the Ashanti people. Today, they continue to be cherished for their beauty and historical significance.
