Experience the beauty and craftsmanship of Ghanaian artistry with our Authentic Ghanaian Recycled Glass Beads. Made by the talented artisans of Krobo in Ghana, these beads are a modern imitation of the classic "Dutch Annular" glass trade beads. Each bead is carefully crafted from recycled glass fragments, making each strand unique and eco-friendly.

  • Strand Length: 21" (53 cm)
  • Bead Size: 11-13 mm in diameter
  • Material: Recycled glass fragments

Our beads are meticulously handmade, ensuring that every strand is a one-of-a-kind piece of art. YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

The process of creating these beautiful beads is an age-old tradition in Krobo. It starts with the collection and preparation of glass bottles and other glass items, which are cleaned and broken into small fragments. These fragments are then placed into clay molds that determine the beads' shape and size. The molds are fired in a kiln at high temperatures, fusing the glass fragments together while preserving some of their original colors and translucency. After cooling, the beads are removed from the molds and polished to smooth out any rough edges, resulting in vibrant, intricately patterned beads that hold significant cultural value in Ghanaian society.

Trade beads have long been an important part of African culture and economy, used in ceremonies and as symbols of status and identity. By purchasing these Krobo recycled glass beads, you are not only acquiring a beautiful piece of jewelry but also supporting the sustainable practices and cultural heritage of the Krobo people.
