Artisanal Technique
The creation of these recycled fused glass beads involves a fascinating and eco-friendly process:
- Collection and Preparation: Small glass beads are collected and cleaned.
- Molding: The small glass beads are placed into clay molds that determine the shape and size of the larger beads.
- Firing: The molds are then fired in a kiln at high temperatures, fusing the small beads together without completely melting them, preserving some of their original texture and color.
- Finishing: After cooling, the beads are removed from the molds and polished to smooth out any rough edges.
These beads showcase vibrant colors and intricate patterns, holding cultural significance in Ghanaian society, often used in ceremonies and as symbols of status and identity.
