Experience the beauty and craftsmanship of African trade beads with this stunning strand of recycled glass beads, handmade by the talented artisans of Kroboland in Ghana, West Africa. These beads imitate the classic "Dutch Annular" glass trade beads, offering a touch of history and culture to your collection.
- Strand Length: 21 3/4" (55.5 cm)
- Bead Size: 11 - 12 mm in diameter
Each bead is crafted from glass fragments, carefully placed into molds to create these exquisite beads. The process ensures that each strand is not only unique but also environmentally friendly, utilizing recycled materials to produce these beautiful pieces.
YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).
The creation of these Krobo beads involves several meticulous steps:
- Collection and Preparation: Glass bottles and other glass items are gathered, cleaned, and broken into small fragments.
- Molding: The fragments are placed into clay molds, which determine the shape and size of the beads.
- Firing: The molds are then placed in a kiln and fired at high temperatures, fusing the fragments together while preserving their original colors and translucency.
- Finishing: After cooling, the beads are removed from the molds and polished to smooth any rough edges.
These beads are not only a testament to the artisans' skill but also hold cultural significance in Ghanaian society. They are often used in ceremonies and serve as symbols of status and identity.
