Introducing our exquisite strand of NEW powder glass African beads, meticulously handcrafted by the talented artisans of Kroboland, Ghana. These stunning beads, inspired by old Venetian fancy trade beads, are a testament to the rich cultural heritage and skilled craftsmanship of the Krobo people.

  • Strand Length: Approximately 26" (67 cm)
  • Bead Size: 6 mm in diameter

Made from recycled bottles and other glass items, these beads are transformed into powder, carefully molded, and crafted into the beautiful pieces you see. The beads are 100% handmade, ensuring each strand is unique and full of character.

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

Artistry and Technique

The Krobo artisans use traditional methods to produce these fancy glass beads. The process begins with crushing recycled glass into a fine powder. This powder is then carefully placed into clay molds, which are shaped into the desired bead forms. Natural dyes are often added to create vibrant colors and intricate patterns.

What sets fancy beads apart is the detailed decoration process. Artisans utilize a combination of glass fragments, powdered glass, and natural dyes to create intricate patterns and vibrant designs. Using metal or wooden tools, they etch or paint detailed motifs onto the beads. The decorated beads are then fired in a kiln, where high temperatures fuse the glass powder and set the designs in place, giving the beads their final form.

Importance of Trade Beads

Trade beads have played a significant role in the cultural and economic history of Ghana and Africa. These beads were historically used as a form of currency and a means of trade between different communities. Today, they continue to be a symbol of cultural identity and artistic expression.

Embrace the rich heritage and artistry of the Krobo people with these authentic powder glass beads. Perfect for creating unique jewelry pieces or adding to your collection.
