Beautiful strand of NEW African disks glass beads, made from recycled NEW tiny SEED glass beads by the people of Kroboland (Ghana, West Africa).

  • Strand length: 22" (56 cm)
  • Bead size: 13 - 14 mm in diameter

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

These stunning beads are meticulously handcrafted by skilled artisans in the Krobo region using recycled glass fragments. Each bead is created through a traditional process that includes the following steps:

Collection and Preparation: Glass bottles and other glass items are collected and cleaned, then broken into small fragments.

Molding: The glass fragments are placed into clay molds, determining the shape and size of the beads.

Firing: The molds with the glass fragments are placed in a kiln and fired at high temperatures. This fuses the glass fragments together, preserving some of their original colors and translucency.

Finishing: Once cooled, the beads are removed from the molds and polished to smooth out any rough edges.

Krobo beads are not only vibrant and intricate but also hold significant cultural value in Ghanaian society, often used in ceremonies and as symbols of status and identity.
