- Strand Length: Approximately 20" (50.5 cm) from bead to bead
- Bead Size: 12-14 mm in diameter
YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).
Each bead in this strand is individually crafted, starting with a hand-made wax mold that is destroyed to free the brass sculpture within, ensuring that every bead is unique and irreplaceable.
By choosing these beads, you are not only getting a piece of jewelry but also a piece of African heritage crafted with passion and precision by the Ashanti people of Ghana.
About the Lost Wax Technique
This ancient method of brass sculpting, known in Africa for centuries, involves detailed wax models of the beads. These models are encased in a clay mold and heated until the wax melts away, leaving a cavity into which molten brass is poured. Once cooled, the mold is broken, revealing the newly formed bead, each with its own character and history.
Significance of Brass Beads in Ghana
In Ghanaian culture, brass beads are more than adornments. They serve as symbols of prestige, wealth, and history, often used in important cultural rituals and as heirlooms passed down through generations. Owning and wearing these beads connects you to the rich tapestry of African heritage and the artistry of the Ashanti people.
