Experience the vibrant artistry of Ghana with our Fancy Powder Glass Beads, meticulously handcrafted by the skilled artisans of Kroboland, Ghana. These stunning beads imitate the intricate designs of old Venetian trade beads, bringing a touch of history and culture to your jewelry creations.

  • Strand Length: 24 1/4" (61.5 cm)
  • Bead Size: 11-12 mm in diameter

Each bead is crafted from recycled glass, including bottles and other glass items, which are pulverized into powder and then formed into molds to create these beautiful beads. This eco-friendly process not only promotes sustainability but also preserves the traditional techniques passed down through generations.

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

Decoration Process

What sets these fancy beads apart is their detailed decoration. Artisans use a combination of glass fragments, powdered glass, and natural dyes to create intricate patterns and vibrant designs. They may employ metal or wooden tools to etch or paint detailed motifs onto the beads, resulting in unique and captivating pieces.

Firing Technique

The decorated beads are then fired in a kiln. The high temperatures fuse the glass powder and set the designs in place, giving the beads their final, lustrous form. This meticulous process ensures each bead is a unique work of art, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the Krobo people.

Importance of Trade Beads

Trade beads have played a significant role in African history, used as currency and in trade for centuries. In Ghana, these beads are more than just decorative items; they are a symbol of identity and tradition. The Krobo people, known for their bead-making expertise, continue to produce these beautiful pieces, keeping the art form alive and thriving.
