Introducing our stunning strand of large-sized African disk glass beads, crafted with care from recycled tiny seed glass beads by the talented artisans of Kroboland, Ghana, West Africa. This beautiful strand measures approximately 22 1/2" (57 cm) in length and features beads with a diameter of approximately 14 mm.

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

These exquisite Krobo recycled fused glass beads showcase the ingenuity and tradition of the Krobo people. Using small-sized seed beads as raw material, they fuse these into larger beads that are notable for their vibrant colors and intricate patterns. These beads are not translucent, making them distinct from other types of recycled glass beads.

The creation of these beads involves several meticulous steps:

  • Collection and Preparation: Small seed beads are collected and prepared as the raw material.
  • Molding: The small beads are placed into clay molds that determine the shape and size of the larger beads.
  • Firing: The molds with the beads are placed in a kiln and fired at high temperatures, fusing the small beads into larger, solid beads.
  • Finishing: Once cooled, the beads are removed from the molds and often polished to smooth out any rough edges.

Krobo beads hold significant cultural value in Ghanaian society, often used in ceremonies and as symbols of status and identity. By choosing these beads, you are not only embracing a piece of African heritage but also supporting sustainable practices.
