Handmade African Brass Beads from Ghana – 21" Lost Wax Strand

Handmade African Brass Beads from Ghana – 21" Lost Wax Strand

Discover the beauty of traditional craftsmanship with this stunning strand of handmade African brass beads from Ghana. Each bead is meticulously crafted by the talented artisans of the Ashanti people, using the ancient "Lost Wax" technique, ensuring that no two beads are exactly alike. This process involves creating a unique mold for each bead, which is destroyed once the bead is cast, resulting in completely handmade beads with intricate details.

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

  • Strand length (bead to bead): 21" (53.5 cm)
  • Bead size: 25-26 mm in length, 13-14 mm in diameter

These beads are 100% handmade by the Ashanti people in Ghana, using techniques passed down through generations. The lost wax method, also known as the "cire perdue" process, involves shaping a bead from wax, covering it with clay, and then melting the wax away to leave a hollow mold. Molten brass is poured into this mold, and after cooling, the clay is broken away to reveal the finished bead. This ancient method has been used across Africa for centuries and is cherished for its detailed, one-of-a-kind results.

Brass beads like these have significant cultural value in Ghana, particularly among the Ashanti. They have long been symbols of wealth, status, and power, often used in ceremonies and passed down as heirlooms. Today, they are still admired for their beauty and craftsmanship, making them a perfect addition to your collection.
