Discover the vibrant and unique charm of our African trade beads, handmade in the heart of Ghana's Krobo region. These recycled glass beads are crafted using fragments of glass, imitating the classic "Dutch Annular" glass trade beads. Each strand measures approximately 21" (53 cm) in length, with beads sized at 10-11mm in diameter.

  • Strand Length: 21" (53 cm)
  • Bead Size: 10-11mm in diameter
  • Material: Recycled Glass
  • Handmade: 100% by Krobo artisans

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

The artisans of Krobo employ a meticulous process to create these stunning beads. They start by collecting and cleaning glass bottles and other glass items, which are then broken into small fragments. These fragments are placed into clay molds that shape the beads. The molds are fired in a kiln at high temperatures, fusing the glass fragments together while preserving their original colors and translucency. Once cooled, the beads are removed from the molds and polished to smooth out any rough edges.

Krobo beads are renowned for their vibrant colors and intricate patterns, which hold significant cultural value in Ghanaian society. They are often used in ceremonies and as symbols of status and identity.
