Discover the beauty of authentic Krobo glass beads, meticulously handcrafted by the talented artisans of Kroboland in Ghana, West Africa. These stunning beads, inspired by old Venetian fancy trade beads, are a testament to the rich cultural heritage and skilled craftsmanship of the Krobo people.

  • Strand Length: Approximately 28" (73 cm)
  • Bead Size: 6 - 13 mm

Each bead is made from recycled glass bottles and other glass items, which are crushed into a fine powder. This powder is then carefully placed into molds and transformed into the beautiful beads you see. The process is entirely manual, ensuring each bead is unique and carries a piece of African history.

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

The technique used by the Krobo people in Ghana to produce these recycled powder glass beads is an age-old tradition. The process involves crushing recycled glass into a fine powder, which is then poured into molds and fired in a kiln. This eco-friendly method not only creates beautiful beads but also promotes recycling and sustainability.

Trade beads have played a significant role in the history of Ghana and Africa. They were once used as a form of currency and were vital in trade negotiations. Today, these beads are cherished for their beauty and cultural significance, making them a perfect addition to any jewelry collection.
