Experience the exquisite beauty of our new strand of powder glass African beads, meticulously handcrafted by the skilled artisans of Kroboland in Ghana, West Africa. These beads are designed to imitate the old Venetian eye trade beads, adding a touch of history and culture to your creations.

  • Strand Length: Approximately 26" (67 cm)
  • Bead Size: 9 - 10 mm in diameter

Made from recycled bottles and other glass items, these beads are turned into a fine powder before being molded into their distinctive shapes. Each bead is 100% handmade, ensuring that your strand will be identical to the one shown in the photograph, with normal variations due to their handcrafted nature. YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

Decoration: What sets these fancy beads apart is the detailed decoration process. Artisans use a combination of glass fragments, powdered glass, and natural dyes to create intricate patterns and vibrant designs. Metal or wooden tools are often used to etch or paint detailed motifs onto the beads.

Firing: Once decorated, the beads are fired in a kiln. The high temperatures fuse the glass powder and set the designs in place, giving the beads their final, durable form.

The Krobo people of Ghana have perfected the art of bead-making over centuries, creating pieces that are not only beautiful but also culturally significant. Trade beads have played an important role in the history of Ghana and Africa, symbolizing wealth, status, and cultural exchange.
