Handmade African Brass Beads from Ghana – Lost Wax Technique, 26" Strand

Handmade African Brass Beads from Ghana – Lost Wax Technique, 26" Strand

This stunning strand of African brass beads was expertly crafted by the people of Ashanti in Ghana, West Africa. Each bead is made using the ancient and intricate lost wax technique, a method that requires a unique hand-sculpted wax mold for every bead, which is destroyed during the casting process, ensuring no two beads are exactly alike.

Details:

  • Strand length (bead to bead): 26" (66 cm)
  • Bead size range: 10-24 mm in diameter
  • Material: 100% handmade brass beads

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

The craftsmanship behind these African brass beads is steeped in history. The lost wax casting technique has been passed down through generations in Ghana, and its origins date back centuries. The beads are not only decorative but also serve as symbols of wealth, status, and artistry within the Ashanti culture.

In the lost wax process, a wax model of each bead is carefully sculpted by hand. This wax model is encased in clay, which is then heated, causing the wax to melt away and leave a cavity into which molten brass is poured. Once cooled, the clay mold is broken open to reveal a unique, one-of-a-kind brass bead.
