Large Round African Brass Beads – Handmade in Ghana (22" Strand)

Large Round African Brass Beads – Handmade in Ghana (22" Strand)

Large Round African Brass Beads – Handmade in Ghana

This beautiful matching strand of large round brass beads is made by the people of the Ashanti in Ghana, West Africa, using the ancient "lost wax" technique. Each bead is crafted by hand, with a wax mold meticulously made for each individual bead. Once the bead is cast, the mold is destroyed, ensuring every bead is a one-of-a-kind piece of art.

  • Strand length: 22" (56 cm) long (from bead to bead)
  • Bead size: 21-22 mm in diameter

These beads are 100% handmade, and YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

Crafted in Ghana by skilled artisans of the Ashanti people, brass beads like these carry a rich cultural history in West Africa. The lost wax technique, used for centuries, involves forming each bead from a hand-carved wax mold that is covered in clay. Once the mold hardens, the wax is melted and replaced with molten brass. This labor-intensive process creates a durable, unique bead.

In Ghana, brass beads have been a symbol of wealth, power, and artistic expression for generations. Traditionally worn during ceremonies, brass beads also hold deep spiritual significance, representing protection and status within the community.
