These beads are an exceptional example of Venetian lampwork, or wound glass beads, a technique perfected in Venice. The artisan carefully melted glass and wound it around a mandrel, applying decorative trails while the glass was still molten. Known for their beauty and durability, these beads were a highly sought-after trade item, especially in Ghana and across West Africa, where they played a significant role in commerce, cultural exchange, and adornment.
