Discover the beauty and craftsmanship of our Krobo recycled glass beads, handmade by the talented artisans of Kroboland in Ghana, West Africa. These beads are inspired by the old Venetian "End of the Day" trade beads, showcasing a rich cultural heritage.

  • Strand Length: 24 3/4" (62.5 cm)
  • Bead Size: 12 - 13 mm in diameter

Our beads are crafted from recycled bottles and other glass items, which are crushed into smaller fragments and then carefully molded to create these stunning beads. Each bead is a testament to the skill and dedication of the artisans, who ensure that every piece is 100% handmade.

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

The Krobo people use a unique technique to produce these recycled glass beads. They start by collecting and cleaning glass bottles and other glass items, which are then broken into small fragments. These fragments are placed into clay molds that shape and size the beads. The molds are then fired in a kiln at high temperatures, fusing the glass fragments together while preserving their original colors and translucency. Once cooled, the beads are removed from the molds and polished to smooth any rough edges.

Krobo beads are renowned for their vibrant colors and intricate patterns, holding significant cultural importance in Ghanaian society. They are often used in ceremonies and symbolize status and identity.
