Rare Antique Black "Eye" Venetian Wound Glass Trade Beads - 14mm

Rare Antique Black "Eye" Venetian Wound Glass Trade Beads - 14mm

Presenting a stunning set of three rare antique black "Eye" Venetian wound glass trade beads, each adorned with intricate trail decoration. These beads were meticulously handcrafted in Venice during the late 1800s to early 1900s, making them exceptional examples of authentic African trade beads.

  • Size of each bead: 14 mm x 11 mm
  • Condition: Excellent, with minor air bubbles typical of old glass beads (see photos)

These beads were created using the traditional Venetian lampwork technique, where molten glass is wound around a metal rod and carefully shaped by hand. This technique results in unique, artistic beads that were highly prized in the African trade, particularly in regions like Ghana and across West Africa. Often used as currency and symbols of wealth, Venetian trade beads played a vital role in African culture, continuing to be cherished by collectors and historians alike.
