Introducing a beautiful strand of new glass (fragments) African trade beads, meticulously handcrafted by the talented artisans of Kroboland, Ghana, West Africa. These stunning beads imitate the classic "Dutch Annular" glass trade beads, bringing a touch of history and culture to your jewelry designs.

  • Strand Length: 20 1/2" (52 cm)
  • Bead Size: 11 mm in diameter

Each bead is created from glass fragments that are carefully placed into molds to produce these exquisite, one-of-a-kind beads. These beads are 100% handmade, ensuring that each strand is unique while maintaining the exceptional quality and appearance shown in the photograph.

Traditional Krobo Bead-Making Technique

The people of Kroboland use a time-honored technique to produce these beautiful beads. They begin with fragments of broken glass, which are then placed into molds and heated to form the beads. This method not only recycles materials but also preserves a rich cultural heritage. Trade beads have played a significant role in the history of Ghana and Africa, serving as a medium of exchange and a symbol of wealth and status.

Fragment Glass vs. Powder Glass Beads

Fragment glass beads, like the ones in this strand, are made from larger pieces of broken glass, resulting in beads with a distinct, textured appearance. In contrast, powder glass beads are created by grinding glass into a fine powder before molding. Both techniques showcase the incredible skill and artistry of the Krobo people but offer different aesthetic qualities and textures.
