Discover the beauty and craftsmanship of our new strand of glass fragments African trade beads, handmade by the talented artisans of Kroboland, Ghana. These beads are a modern imitation of the old "Dutch Annular" glass trade beads, bringing a touch of historical charm to your jewelry designs.
- Strand Length: 20 1/2" (52 cm)
- Bead Size: 10 - 12 mm in diameter
These stunning beads are crafted from recycled glass fragments, carefully selected and placed into molds to create their unique and attractive appearance. Each bead is 100% handmade, ensuring that no two beads are exactly alike.
YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).
The artisans of Krobo produce these beads using a meticulous technique. They start by collecting and cleaning glass bottles and other glass items, which are then broken into small fragments. These fragments are placed into clay molds that determine the shape and size of the beads. The molds are then fired in a kiln at high temperatures, fusing the glass fragments together while preserving their original colors and translucency. Once cooled, the beads are polished to smooth out any rough edges.
Krobo beads are renowned for their vibrant colors and intricate patterns, holding cultural significance in Ghanaian society. They are often used in ceremonies and symbolize status and identity. By purchasing these beads, you are not only acquiring a beautiful piece of art but also supporting the artisans of Kroboland and their traditional craft.
