Large African Brass Beads – Handmade in Ghana with Lost Wax Technique

Large African Brass Beads – Handmade in Ghana with Lost Wax Technique

Presenting a stunning strand of large-sized African brass beads, carefully crafted by the people of Ashanti in Ghana, West Africa. Each bead on this strand is made using the ancient "lost wax" technique, where a unique wax mold is sculpted for every bead. The mold is destroyed after casting, ensuring that each bead is truly one of a kind. These beads are 100% handmade, embodying the remarkable skill and artistry of the Ashanti people.

Key Measurements:

  • Strand length (bead to bead): Approx. 23" (58.5 cm)
  • Bead length: 32-35 mm
  • Bead diameter: 22-23 mm

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

These stunning beads are crafted using the traditional lost wax casting technique, a practice that has been passed down through generations in Ghana. To create each bead, artisans carefully sculpt a wax model, which is then encased in clay to form a mold. Molten brass is poured into the mold, melting the wax and taking its place. Once cooled, the mold is broken to reveal the unique brass bead. This method results in beads with beautiful textures and slight variations, adding to their charm and authenticity.

In Ghana, brass beads have long been prized for their cultural significance and decorative beauty. Used in ceremonies, for adornment, and as symbols of wealth and status, these beads carry deep meaning within African history. By owning a strand of these handmade brass beads, you're connecting with a rich artistic tradition that continues to thrive today.
