Authentic African Lobi Brass Bell Beads from Burkina Faso - 16-17mm

Authentic African Lobi Brass Bell Beads from Burkina Faso - 16-17mm

These five authentic brass bell beads are handcrafted by the people of Lobi in Burkina Faso using the traditional lost wax technique. The bells make a soft sound when struck together, adding a unique charm to your jewelry designs or collection. These beads were used in the African trade during the mid-1900s and are in excellent condition despite their age. Each piece has a beautiful patina, with minor wear and small damages that reflect their long history.

  • Bead length: 16-17 mm (0.63-0.67 inches)
  • Handmade in: Burkina Faso
  • Condition: Excellent with minor signs of wear

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

These beads are crafted using the ancient lost wax method, a technique that involves creating a wax mold of each bead, which is then covered in clay and fired. The wax melts away, leaving behind a mold that is filled with molten brass, creating one-of-a-kind pieces. Brass beads have played a significant role in African culture, symbolizing wealth, trade, and status. In regions like Burkina Faso and Ghana, they have been used as currency, in ceremonies, and as adornments for centuries.
