Discover the beauty and craftsmanship of our new African beads, made from recycled fused glass seed beads by the talented artisans of Kroboland in Ghana, West Africa. These exquisite beads are a testament to traditional African bead-making techniques and sustainability.

  • Length of Strand: Approximately 19 3/4" (50 cm)
  • Bead Diameter: 12 - 13 mm

Each bead is 100% handmade, meticulously crafted by skilled artisans who transform recycled glass into beautiful, durable beads. The beads are tumble rounded and polished, resulting in a smooth surface that is pleasant to touch and wear.

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

The creation of these beads involves a fascinating process:

Collection and Preparation: Artisans collect small glass beads, which are then cleaned and prepared for the next steps.

Molding: The small glass beads are placed into clay molds that determine the shape and size of the larger beads.

Firing: The molds with the glass beads are fired in a kiln at high temperatures. This fuses the small glass beads together to form larger, non-translucent beads.

Finishing: Once cooled, the beads are removed from the molds and polished to smooth out any rough edges.

These beads are not only beautiful but also hold cultural significance in Ghanaian society, often used in ceremonies and as symbols of status and identity. By purchasing these beads, you support sustainable practices and the rich cultural heritage of Ghana.
