African Trade Beads - Fancy Recycled Glass Krobo Beads from Ghana
Discover the beauty and craftsmanship of Ghanaian Krobo beads, meticulously handcrafted by artisans in Kroboland, Ghana. These exquisite beads imitate the intricate designs of old Venetian fancy trade beads, offering a unique and vibrant addition to any jewelry collection.
- Strand Length: 23 3/4" (60 cm)
- Bead Size: 11 - 12 mm in diameter
YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).
Each bead is made from recycled glass bottles and other glass items, which are ground into powder and carefully molded to create these stunning beads. The beads are then decorated using a combination of glass fragments, powdered glass, and natural dyes to produce intricate patterns and vibrant designs.
What sets these fancy beads apart is the detailed decoration process. Artisans use metal or wooden tools to etch or paint detailed motifs onto the beads. The decorated beads are then fired in a kiln, where the high temperatures fuse the glass powder and set the designs in place, giving the beads their final form.
These beads are 100% handmade, reflecting the traditional techniques and cultural significance of the Krobo people. Trade beads have played an important role in Ghanaian and African history, symbolizing wealth, social status, and cultural heritage.
