Introducing a beautiful strand of new powder glass African beads, handcrafted by the talented artisans of Kroboland in Ghana, West Africa. These exquisite beads imitate the intricate designs of old Venetian fancy trade beads, making them a unique addition to any collection.

  • Strand length: 23 1/2" (59.5 cm)
  • Bead size: 12 mm in diameter

These beads are made from recycled bottles and other glass items that are ground into powder and then molded to create their stunning appearance. Each bead is 100% handmade, ensuring that your strand will be identical to the strand shown in the photograph (given normal variation since these beads are all completely handmade).

The people of Krobo in Ghana utilize traditional techniques to produce these fancy glass beads. The process begins with crushing recycled glass into a fine powder. This powder is then carefully poured into molds. The meticulous decoration process involves using a combination of glass fragments, powdered glass, and natural dyes to create intricate patterns and vibrant designs. Artisans employ metal or wooden tools to etch or paint detailed motifs onto the beads.

Once decorated, the beads undergo firing in a kiln. The high temperatures fuse the glass powder and set the designs in place, giving the beads their final form. This ancient technique not only produces beautiful beads but also plays a significant role in the cultural heritage and economy of the Krobo people and the broader region of Ghana and Africa.

Trade beads have been an essential part of African history, serving as a form of currency and a means of artistic expression. These fancy glass beads are a testament to this rich tradition, combining historical significance with contemporary craftsmanship.
